9.9.09 | 2 - Judging Others

A Woman Caught in Sin
John 7:53-8:11 (CEV)

Being naturally sinners, we have a tendency of doing bad unto others, from the simplest to the most complex, the lightest to the heaviest, the subtlest to the most vulgar. It doesn't matter what degree of "badness" it is, even just thinking of something bad to a person is a sin. We see other's bad but don't see our own. We tend to judge many but ourselves.

"Then they said, 'Teacher, this woman was caught sleeping with a man who isn't her husband." Jn. 8:4

The Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus and brought a woman who was guilty of adultery. They brought her to Jesus to test what He would say and do. But Jesus said:

"If any of you have never sinned, then go ahead and throw the first stone at her!" Jn. 8:7

Of course the people knew deep inside their hearts that they also sinned, so no one did anything and just simply went home. Then Jesus said to the woman:

"I am not going to accuse you either. You may go now, but don't sin anymore." Jn. 8:11

It may appear as if the sin didn't matter. But what is shown here, is how Jesus knew our human weaknesses and that He is giving us a second chance. He sees the best in us, not our wrongs. If ask for forgiveness and repent, He is sure to forget any sin. He loves us that much.

So, if Jesus Himself believed in us and never judged, who are we to do what he didn't do? Who are we to judge people whom He didn't judge? He is a living example of a perfect human being.

I know, and Jesus knows too, that it is hard to see goodness in people you don't like, but that's what He wants. Ask that He give you the strength to do just that and surrender yourself to what He wants. It is never easy, nothing is ever easy. But we must do it anyway.
